THE BAMBOO GROWTH IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

The Bamboo Growth In Our Christian Life

The most dangerous time to quit is when nothing appears to be happening. There is a familiar story about a farmer who watered a bamboo field every morning for five years, same soil, same routine, no visible growth. The neighbor started talking: Five years and nothing? Time to quit. Then the ground broke open. Within weeks, the bamboo towered above him.

But, the bamboo did not grow in a few weeks. It grew for five years underground. Then revealed the work above it. While the field looked empty, the roots were spreading, deepening, strengthening, building a foundation capable of carrying what was coming.

If the bamboo had reached his full height in the first year, it would have collapsed under its own way. Maybe the thing you are asking God to accelerate would crush the version of you that exists today. I think about this constantly as a founder: you work, you pray, you keep showing up.

And the scoreboard still says nothing is happening. The business has not taken off. The relationship has not healed. The prayer has not been answered, So you think you ask the question, every builder eventually asks: Is it time to quit? But God often builds roots before He reveals results: faith, character, endurance, wisdom, capacity.

The quiet years are not empty years; they are load bearing years. Abraham waited twenty five years for Isaac. Moses spent forty years in a wilderness. Jesus spent thirty largely hidden years before three public years of ministry. Nobody skips the root season.

Scripture says, Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. God rejoices while it still looks small, while the field still looks empty, while the neighbors are still questioning you. Your job is not to force the harvest.

Your job is to remain faithful to the watering. Galatians six nine says, At the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Delay is not always denial. Silence is not absence. Hidden does not mean inactive.

One day, the thing people call an overnight success will be standing on roots. They never saw you grow. Keep watering the field may look empty but God is still working underground.

Let us know how we can pray for you this week.
