Have you ever had an encounter with Jesus? I mean, have you met Him personally in your life, and experienced His presence in a way that dramatically changed your life?
Today's question brings perhaps many things to one's mind. The truth is that many people are saying they are Christians for many reasons. You may have grown up in a Christian household, and you think because of this, you are a Christian.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. Each person has to be born again to enter the kingdom of heaven...
Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)
People do not get born again by the works they do, or anything of their own effort, or the effort of anyone else. Sadly, many Catholic people think they have to earn their way to heaven. But that's not what the Bible says...
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
I did not grow up in a home that honored the Lord, and as a young adult, I started taking my children to a church for both church services and schooling. It was Lutheran, and they did not teach us one thing about having a relationship with Jesus, or about being filled with His Holy Spirit.
It took a major crisis in my life to cry out to God, and I spent 11 months searching for someone I did not really know, but somehow I knew He was there, and had answered some of my prayers in former times. It was when He led me to a non denominational church, and I sat and listened to the teachings of the pastor from the Bible; things I had never heard before. It didn't take long before I knew I needed to ask Him for help.
For the first time ion my life, I went home and hit my knees on the floor beside my bed and cried out to God to fix me. He heard that prayer, and by the time I woke up the next day, I would soon discover that there was something different about me. I began to fall in love with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. I began to read the Bible from start to finish and it started to really come alive and minister to me.
After that all started, I longed to tell everyone I came in contact about what Jesus had done for me. He saved my life and raised me from the dead, literally - I almost died, but Jesus woke me up! I have seen the miracles He has done, and by His grace, I am alive to tell you about how good He is. Once I had that encounter with Him, my life changed and I could hear Him speaking to me in so many ways, including the Bible.
If you haven't yet come to the point of being drawn to Him by the Father, pursue Him with all your heart. Jesus is the ONLY WAY to get to heaven. You never want to hear Him say, "depart from Me, I never knew you." See Matthew chapter 7.
This is the most serious and important decision you will ever make in your life. If you are muslim, of buddhist, or whatever other religious names are out there, come to know and have relationship with the one true God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. You will be eternally glad you did!
