“Multiplying
God’s Word Around the Globe”
Chapter Reading
for Today: Please read in
your Bible before proceeding. Note that most translations are considered
paraphrases. The Young’s Literal Translation provides a more accurate
translation since he is the one who authored a concordance. Others are helpful
for seeing a different perspective, but we cannot always depend on their
wording. I trust this is helpful to you. If you are studying in another
version, that is fine. I am studying from the KJV.
***Please
note a change! We will look at everything for our basic study from the King
James Version going forward. It is helpful to stay with one solid version as we
study so as not to cause confusion. I may add other translations for specific
scriptures as the Lord directs.
One final note: I will put the scripture in italics to differentiate from my
own writing. I am adding red to the letters when
it is Jesus talking – just like the Bible. Thank you.
Bible Gateway Verse of the Day
Psalm 136:1,26
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.
This Is How We Overcome
The day is coming quickly when satan will be cast into the
lake of fire for all eternity – never to trouble any man again – praise God!
Thanks to Jesus, the enemy has been defeated and the plan that God had for
Jesus was completely fulfilled when He gave up His Spirit on Calvary’s cross to
the Father. Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father:
Thank You for Jesus and for the purpose for which You sent
Him to this earth! Where would we be without Him? This is a terrible thought.
This world has been steeped in sin since the fall of man when Adam and Eve gave
up their God given place of authority in the earth. Mankind was never the same
again. Father, I ask You to give me the anointing and utterance to speak Your
word with boldness, accuracy, excellence and clarity. Father, I ask You to open
our hearts and minds to receive what You want to show us today. Give us a soft
heart and a strong desire for Your word. Help us to be renewed by the washing
of the water of Your word in this lesson and come away changed in the way we
live – according to Your word. Father, we are purposing in our hearts to be
doers of Your word and not forgetful hearers. Thank You for always watching
over Your word to perform it when we obey You and do what You say. It’s all
about Your word. Cause this message to reach Your intended audience, unhindered
and unchecked by any outside force or my flesh. We will give You all the glory,
honor and praise for the answers to this prayer. We believe we have received
them and we thank You for it in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen.
When we initially read this Psalm, many things may cross our
minds. But we have to ask the question, “What does it mean to sit at the right
hand of the Father in heaven until He makes Jesus’ enemies His footstool?” Here we see God talking to His Son Jesus.
What He is telling Him is that His work in the earth was finished. However, it
is not over as far as the enemy is concerned. You see, Jesus came and made a
public spectacle of satan and his wicked host of evil workers. The Lord has
done everything He is going to do about the enemy – for now, that is. Jesus has
won the victory by giving His life over to be used as the one and only
acceptable sacrifice for all sin, for all time. More on the answer to this
question in a bit. Look at this in John…
John 19:1-22
9 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged
him. 2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and
put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, 3 And
said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands. 4 Pilate
therefore went forth again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to
you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him. 5 Then
came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate
saith unto them, Behold the man!
6 When the chief priests therefore and officers
saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto
them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him. 7 The
Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he
made himself the Son of God.
8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was
the more afraid; 9 And went again into the judgment
hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer. 10 Then
saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have
power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? 11 Jesus
answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me,
except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee
hath the greater sin.
12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release
him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not
Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. 13 When
Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the
judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew,
Gabbatha.
14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and
about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! 15 But
they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them,
Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but
Caesar. 16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to
be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away. 17 And
he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which
is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18 Where they crucified him, and two other with
him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. 19 And
Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was Jesus Of
Nazareth The King Of The Jews. 20 This title then read many of the
Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was
written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to
Pilate, Write not, The
King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. 22 Pilate
answered, What I have written I have written.
Can you see the sovereignty of God here? Jesus purpose and
calling was to be the Lord of lords and the King of kings. Nothing happened
that day “by chance.” It was all prophesied ahead of time and the events played
out exactly as they were supposed to according to the perfect plan and will of
God. Jesus is the King of the Jews and He is a Priest forever, just as out
chapter indicates. As we read this Psalm we can see the overriding theme is
about God sending His Son Jesus to defeat the enemy. No man could do this. It had
to be Jesus. And we must always remember that Jesus was a man too, just like us.
Even though He was the Son of God, He laid down all His
mighty weight and glory for the purpose of coming to the earth and giving His
life as a ransom for many. He did it willingly and He was obedient to
everything the Father was asking Him to do. He was anointed with the power of
Holy Spirit – just like any born-again believer is today. He was able to deny
Himself and keep His eyes on the purpose so that satan would be defeated.
To answer the question we stated earlier, what does it mean
that He has done all He is going to do about the enemy for now anyway? Jesus
has been raised from the dead and came with the keys of death and hades. He won
the victory for all of us who would believe in His name. He overcame the devil!
That means you and I can walk in victory in every area of our lives because
Jesus stripped satan of his power…
Colossians 2:10-15
10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of
all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the
circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the
flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him
in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the
operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the
uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having
forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the
handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and
took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And
having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly,
triumphing over them in it.
While the devil still has rule in the earth until Adam’s
lease runs out, there is nothing more that God has to do or will do about the
devil. Now it is up to us. Jesus’ purpose and calling had been fulfilled in the
earth. He is our High Priest forever – hallelujah! How did He rule in the midst
of the enemy while He was here? He ruled by having faith in God the Father and
by standing on His word. In faith and obedience, Jesus was able to take
authority over the enemy even though He had not gone to the cross yet. He knew
how to take His stand by using the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God…
Ephesians 6:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Jesus was the “rod” in Moses hand to overcome Pharaoh, and He
is the Rod in ours! He is the word made flesh. His word pierces the darkness.
No believer on the planet should be suffering to the extent that many are. Yes,
there will be trials and tribulations in this life, but we can walk through
every one of them victoriously because Jesus overcame satan and spoiled every principality
and power. Jesus was able to rule against satan while He was here, and so can
we. We just need to understand the authority that has already been given to us
by the Master…
Luke 10:19
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and
over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Our
chapter indicates that God’s people would be willing in the day of Jesus power;
in the beauty of holiness, from the beginning of one’s acceptance of His salvation
into their hearts – His light upon the dark, sinful places in our spirit man.
He is the Light of the world and the minute we call on His name, we will be
saved. Praise His name forever. Yes, the very moment we call on the name of
Jesus, we become a new creation. Then, we are able to worship the Lord in the
beauty of holiness, because then we are clothed in a robe of righteousness. No
longer are we looked upon by God in eternal punishment like the heathen. God
called Jesus to be our High Priest forever and that was final – there would be
no changing His mind. He made a way for mankind to be able to come into the
holy of holies to worship Him in spirit and in truth – hallelujah!
In
verse 3 where it says that “thou hast the
dew of thy youth,” we can learn from what the Lord has revealed to me. The
dew represents water, which represents the Holy Spirit. Also, dew covers the
ground. So, this means that Jesus was covered with the Holy Spirit from His
youth. Amazing. I couldn’t come up with that on my own, I can assure you!
Praise the Lord forever! Verses 5 &
6 talk about God’s judgment on the lost and also how He will “strike through” the
kings in the day of His wrath. The kings He is talking about are the rulers of
darkness.
Satan
has a lot of evil workers in the earth, in the first heaven and in the second
heaven. When the final day of judgment comes, satan and every wicked ruler will
be done away with once and for all. For now, satan remains the god of this
world which is why it is of the utmost importance that God’s people pray for lost
souls to be plucked from satan’s grip. And wounding the head of many countries
is the same as saying that those wicked forces that are ruling over countries
are also among those who will be destroyed. To get a better picture, look at
this…
Ephesians
6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
There
are four levels of evil spirits that we have to deal with. The Lord Jesus
Himself spoke to Kenneth E. Hagin in a vision and told him that we are called
to deal with the first three levels, and Jesus will deal with the fourth. There
are many types of demons, evil spirits and rulers in the heavenlies. That’s why
it is so important for the believer to understand the authority they have
already been given through Jesus Christ. We are to stand on the word of God in
faith and that is how we wrestle against these evil principalities, etc.
I
highly recommend the book by Kenneth E. Hagin titled, “The Triumphant Church.”
Once a person gets a hold of this book filled with God’s word, His wisdom and
revelation, they will never live a defeated life again. It is helping me
tremendously and I want that every Christian would understand what we have
already been given. It is the cry of my heart on a daily basis. (See Ephesians
1) We need the church to rise up and become the triumphant church that Jesus
worked so hard to enable us to be.
His
labor of love in the earth ended in a triumphal journey from Pilate’s judgment
seat to the cross. And from the cross, He went to hell for us so we wouldn’t
have to go. Then, on the third day God raised Him from the dead with the keys
of death and hades in His beautiful nail pierced hands. After that He was
lifted up by Holy Spirit right into heaven where He sits until God makes the
devil His footstool forever at the day of judgment – praise His name forever.
Because Jesus rose victorious, we can rise victorious. All we have to do is
this…
Romans
10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
And once we have done this, we become overcomers, just like
Jesus. Look at this…
1 John 5:4
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the
victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
What are you saying these days about your life? Do you have
faith in Jesus? Do you believe that God raised Him from the dead? A friend of
mine wrote me a text today and said she is still struggling with the part about
having full authority over the enemy. I just replied and asked her a question: “Do
you believe God’s word?” She replied and “Yes!!!!!!!!!!!” Then I asked her in
my reply back, saying “Then what is your struggle?” Friend, we either believe
by faith in the finished work of Jesus, or we don’t. There is no middle ground
here.
It is by faith that we get saved, and it must be by faith in
the word of God that we overcome. His word is sharp and powerful. Just this
morning the devil tried to get into our household with some thoughts of doubt,
worry and fear. But we got ahold of it right away by stating the word of God
out loud, in faith. And after that, everything changed. The devil left and God
was the center of our attention and our praise.
When we drink from the brook of Living water, God lifts up
our heads. No more do we have to walk in shame, doubt, worry, fear or any other
form of defeat. The enemy is the one who has been defeated – not us! Thank You,
Jesus. Look at this…
Psalm 3:3
But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
We need never fear evil because Jesus has placed the Lord as
our Refuge by giving us the opportunity to accept His perfect sacrifice of love
so we could be saved. Look at this…
Psalm 91:9-10
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most
High, thy habitation; 10 There shall no evil befall
thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
There are three main points to
consider from today’s study…
God has done all He is going to do
about the devil for now
Jesus has already defeated satan –
he is a defeated foe
We overcome because of the finished
work of Jesus
Questions:
What spoke to you the most in this lesson?
How were you able to apply this to your life right now?
What will you do differently going forward?
Who can you share this study with?
Do you
know that through Jesus you can overcome any obstacle or trial?
Let’s pray…
Heavenly Father:
Thank You for giving us the victory over the
devil through Jesus Christ our Lord. Father, I ask You to reveal to me anything
that I have not believed correctly or understood. Show me where I have given in
to any “doctrines of devils” by listening to false teachings on the subject of
my authority over the evil one that was given to me by Jesus. Thank You in advance
for showing me the Way, the Truth and the Life – Jesus. All the glory belongs
to You now and forever! In Jesus name. Amen.
And God Said… You fill in the blanks.
Jeremiah 17:14
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for
thou art my praise.
