More Than a Conqueror

November 9, 2016

Romans 8:37

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

What does it really mean to be “more” than a conqueror?  I began to wonder about this recently. I knew it had to have a very significant meaning because it wouldn’t’ say it in God’s word if it didn’t. I can honestly say that before today, I did not understand it like I do now. It is for me another day of seeing God’s awesome and powerful word come to pass in my life and I am so excited to share it with you.

Today I have a new song – see the Psalm 96 Bible Study posted on my blog for today. It is a song of triumph in the name of Jesus – hallelujah! I have reached a physical and spiritual goal in my life that looked completely impossible to me in days gone by. Oh, but now, thanks be to God through our Lord Jesus Christ who always causes us to triumph in His name, He has caused me to overcome. He has shown me what it means to be “more than a conqueror!”

When I stepped on the scale this morning, my eyes brightened and opened widely to see the new numbers on my scale. While I do not weigh myself daily, or even weekly lately, today I was led to hop on. When I did I saw the numbers I have not seen since I was maybe 15 years old – glory to God! Friend, this is a really big deal. Not only have I reached the goal the Lord has asked me to press toward, but I have exceeded it! Hallelujah! I believe this is what it means to be more than a conqueror. We can not only achieve our goals, but we can surpass them and make the devil sorry he ever tried to mess with us.

I have marked it on my calendar. Now I can make new goals and aspire to new heights in my life - glory to God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! With addiction behind me, and my weight goal achieved, I can now press in to the weightier matters of kingdom living. As we grow up in Christ, we need to get past these issues in our lives so God can take us to new heights.

We need to be mature, and act as wise adult children in the Lord. We should not be dealing with the same issues we did when we were immature Christians. Addiction is for the immature Christian who has not yet discovered the power they have in the name of Jesus or the power of God’s word in their life. To understand these things and apply them shows a sign that we are growing up.

This is well pleasing to the Lord. I acted like an immature Christian for far too long. While it only took a brief moment according to God’s timetable, it was far too long in coming according to mine! And all of it was a matter of being willing and obedient. I needed a change of heart. But I could not even change my heart on my own. I needed the Lord to do it. And He did – hallelujah!

The Lord knows what we understand and what we do not. He will not hold us accountable for the light we do not yet have – only the light we do have. That means what we understand, we are accountable for. If we know He wants us to do something, we need to get busy and do it. If we see that we have been struggling with it within our hearts, we need to spend more time with Him in prayer and in His word. If we do, we will always come out ahead.

The Lord wants us to conquer and take possession of the Promised Land that He has for us. He told Joshua to go in and take the land. He assured him that He would be with them. And Joshua, full of faith, told the people in essence, “Come on folks, let’s go. We are well able to possess the land. The Lord our God is with us. Be strong, come on, be strong.” This is what we need to say. Some self-talk is good. Tell yourself to “be strong! Come on, let’s do it kiddo! You are well able with God’s help.”

Do you want to know how you can stand on victory mountain and be called “more than a conqueror” in the kingdom of God? All you have to do is work God’s word. Look at this…

2 Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That’s it right there. That is your answer. Use God’s word. He has given us His word and He has given us authority over the devil by the power of His word and the name above all names – Jesus. In addition to that, He has promised us that His power is perfect in our fleshy weakness. So there we have it – the keys to victory; the keys to the kingdom! Now go in and take it by force. You and I have all the power of God in His word and mighty strength, we have the name of Jesus. We are armed and ready for the battle. Nothing can stop us now. Victory is ours in Christ Jesus. The enemy and our flesh is defeated. Will we always have to deal with them? Yes. But we have what it takes. And God is always able to deliver His kids out of temptation…

2 Peter 2:9

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

When we come against temptation, we take it to the Lord. Do you not think for one minute that the enemy is going to try to come against this current victory in my life? We would be foolish indeed to think otherwise. In fact, he already has just today. But God is able to provide a way out. We have to watch and pray. We have been talking about all these things in these devotionals. Now, if we will put them into practice, we will have the victory.

The question for you my friend is this. Are you willing to do the work it takes to get there? That is the difference between the babies and the grownups in the end after all, isn’t it? The doers of the word of God get results while the hearers only sit along the sidelines of life in defeat, day after another miserable day. It doesn’t have to be that way for you my dear friend. You can leave addiction far behind you and walk in the victory that Christ has paid for with His precious blood. We just have to work the word of God and rely on the power in the name of Jesus. It works when we work it.
