I Die Daily

1 Corinthians 15:30-31

And why do we stand in jeopardy every hour? I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

For the addict, dying to the flesh is as a curse word! The whole reason that anyone becomes an addict is because they are living according to the desires of their flesh. They are neglecting the gifts of God and going for earthly, temporal satisfactions which in the end only bring death.

For the Christian to overcome addiction is to walk in the spirit, not according to the flesh. Paul denied himself every single day. Let’s look at some verses that you can speak out loud over yourself every day. You can add your own victory words to them. We will talk about that more in a few moments…

Philippians 4:11-13

11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Learning to be content with what we have is a big deal. And how do we get there? By saying it out loud. For example, I could say this over myself every day until I started seeing the changes actually taking place…”Hanny is content in every situation every day.” Or, “I am content in every situation every day in Jesus name.”

It is that simple, but it is ever so powerful. When we speak God’s word in faith out loud over ourselves, it begins to produce a harvest. This is how we work the word. For the addict, it is even more critical that you feed on the word of God every day, all day. We all need His word constantly. If we are going to overdose on anything, it should be the word of God!

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Remember each day to be on high alert for the schemes of the devil in your life. He will try to tempt you in the areas where you have been the weakest. He will come when you are tired, or angry, or lonely. When you are not watching and praying, asking the Lord to help you and make you aware of any scheme he is planning, then you are setting yourself up for a hit. Be on guard at all times.

John 6:63

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

We can say these words right from the Bible over ourselves. It will tell our spirit and our flesh what the real deal is. Over time, it will work in us to get us to the point of victory that we are looking for. For example, “Hanny, it is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.”

Romans 7:18

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find.

My flesh does not know how to do the will of God. But the Bible shows us how. Focus on His word. Pick verses out that encourage you and make you feel victorious down deep in your soul and spirit. Every person can find specific verses that speak to them personally from the Lord. These words from God will strengthen you in your inner man. It should be a daily practice.
Romans 8:5-13
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peaceBecause the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
 Romans 13:14

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Galatians 5:16

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:24

And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

All of the above verses can be a daily commitment of yours. When you focus on what brings life and peace rather than what brings death, you will walk right out of the pit of destruction from addiction into the sweet arms of Jesus. Recently I began to make it a point to make several daily declarations over my life, and I can tell you the truth before God that I have seen a major shift in my heart. Glory to His name forever!

Working the word is exactly what we need to do to get results. Sitting down to squeeze in a few moments in the Bible each day is not enough. It must be number one priority to us.
Remember to keep working the word. You will get the victory…

1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
