David the Shepherd – Warrior
When David was out in the field with the sheep and the lion and the bear came, He had to choose to fight them off—literally to wrestle against and slay them—because though God was with him, he still had to do something. He was a worshiper, a writer, a prayer warrior and a battle warrior. Though he was very tenderhearted, He was forced to fight and become one that God would use after he took down his bear and lion, the giant and many others that would come against him.
He would be used by to lead the nation of Israel. He was chosen to be commander over God's people. It would take many battles to overcome and see the deliverance of the Lord. David was anointed, David was appointed, and he had to go into battle. When he had the opportunity to go against Goliath, he asked what would be done for the man who would take that giant down.
Next, he followed that question about the reward with a bold and confident statement of faith, Saying, “For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the God of angel armies." When he stood face to face with Goliath, he paid zero attention to how big he was. Zero. Instead, he told that devil that God - his God would deliver him into David's hands. Bold faith in face-to-face combat. David had to do something. God wasn't going to do it for him. Oh, but when he stepped up to face that devil, the God of angel armies stepped in and put his super on David's natural, and the enemy was defeated. The victory was sweet. The rewards were great. From that point on, David fought battle after battle. In the end, he praised the Lord for delivering him from all his enemies.
During
his long wait to be put into the position of king, persecution and battle would
define his life. Oh, But God brought him a Nathan to partner with him and be a
friend indeed, who would stay by his side. Later, He would have an army of
mighty men who would fight with him and for him. The Lord will always be with
us in the battle one way or another, but we must fight our own lions, bears,
and giants. We can do all this confidently knowing that as we step up to the
battles we each face in this life, the Lord is faithful to put His super on our
natural too, just like He did for David. In 2 Samuel 22 we can see David's
praise to God for his deliverance from the enemy.
The
Lord Himself arms us with strength for the battle.
Dear Heavenly Father,
We are so thankful You are faithful to arm us with the strength we need in the inner man for the many battles we face in this life. We give you praise that you never leave or forsake us and that no weapon that forms against us will ever prosper. Thank you, Heavenly Father, that through Jesus Christ, you have given us the victory and that you always cause us to triumph in Christ. And we give you all the praise, honor, and glory in the matchless mighty Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
